FinOps Maturity Assessment
Understand where your cloud financial practice sits today, and what to build next.
Across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and hybrid estates.
Capability mapping
Structured evaluation across all FinOps dimensions
Benchmarking
Compare against mid-market and scale-up peers
Roadmap
Prioritised improvements that respect your resources
How We Assess Maturity
A five-phase assessment producing findings and a prioritised roadmap.
Discovery
Stakeholder interviews across finance, engineering, and product. Collection of billing data, tagging coverage, existing reports, governance artefacts, and operating rhythm documentation.
Evaluation
Capability scoring against the FinOps Foundation framework across its domains. Identification of strengths, gaps, and inconsistencies between stated practice and observed practice.
Analysis
Gap analysis, peer benchmarking, and root cause identification for observed gaps. Distinguishes capability gaps from process gaps from tooling gaps.
Roadmap
Prioritised recommendations structured into quick wins (30 days), structural improvements (90 days), and capability investments (6 to 12 months). Each recommendation includes an owner, a decision, and success criteria.
Handover
Detailed report, executive briefing, and implementation guidance. The roadmap is structured for your team to execute without external support.
Three outputs of the assessment
Capability mapping
Structured evaluation across the domains of the FinOps Foundation framework, with findings specific to your cloud estate and operating model.
Peer benchmarking
Compare your practice against organisations at similar stages of cloud maturity. Know whether you are ahead, behind, or appropriately positioned for what you are trying to achieve.
Prioritised roadmap
Quick wins, medium-term structural improvements, and longer-horizon capability investments, ranked by impact and the resources required to execute.
The four domains of the FinOps Foundation framework
Plus the practice enablement layer that connects them.
Understand usage and cost
Data ingestion, allocation, reporting, and anomaly management. The foundation every other capability depends on. We assess whether your data is trustworthy enough to drive decisions.
Quantify business value
Planning and forecasting, budgeting, benchmarking, and unit economics. We evaluate how well cloud spend is connected to the business outcomes it exists to serve.
Optimise usage and cost
Architecture efficiency, commitment purchasing, rate optimisation, and workload management. We assess where optimisation decisions sit and whether they are made with context or in isolation.
Manage the FinOps practice
Policy and governance, FinOps tools, education, chargeback mechanisms, and workload onboarding. We evaluate whether the practice has the operating model to sustain itself.
Intersecting disciplines
How FinOps connects with ITAM, ITFM, procurement, sustainability, security, and data management. We assess the organisational seams that determine whether FinOps scales across the business.
How engagements work
Engagements are sized as investments, scoped to outcomes. Not invoices for effort.
Why this works
Four things that make an Aureon assessment different.
Benchmarked against peers, not enterprise standards
Realistic reference points from organisations at similar stages of cloud maturity. The goal is to assess where you are against where you should be for your context, not against aspirational enterprise targets that aren't relevant yet.
Action over analysis
Every finding connects to a specific action with implementation guidance. The report is structured so the reader can start work on Monday, not next quarter.
Action in 30 days
Three to five immediate improvements you can implement within 30 days, separated from the longer-horizon structural work. Builds momentum while the larger programme is scoped.
Framework-aligned, provider-neutral
The assessment scores capability against the FinOps Foundation framework, the practitioner-developed industry standard for cloud financial management. Maturity is evaluated equally across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and hybrid estates.
